Background - Teams - Project credits

Tampere, Finland

Tampere does not have a large population of immigrants but this is exactly why the city also becomes interesting. The few people from former Yugoslavia that live there are in another life situation than those who are constantly in touch with people sharing a cultural identity.

Malmö, Sweden

Malmö is the home of many Bosnians and other immigrants from former Yugoslavia, providing a relevant background for the documentary work. One could see this as a possibility of exploring the everyday life of people who have settled in new land. These people have come at different points in time: there is the young population who came here during the wars in the 90’s but there is also an older generation of guest workers who immigrated during the 60’s. These two generations take up a considerable large part of Malmö’s multicultural community, relating to the fact that some 34 % of the population in Malmö is immigrants.

Sarajevo, Bosnia & Herzegovina

In Sarajevo connections between people living in Malmö and their relations to Sarajevo, Bosnia or Ex-Yugoslavia could be a theme. There is also the question of the young people`s hopes and dreams for a future and an anxiety of staying/leaving oneís country. One could also deal with people who presently live in Sarajevo but who were living elsewhere in former Yugoslavia or Bosnia before the war.

The relationship between Tomas and film started out when Tomas got the job as a projectionist in an alternative cinema in Gothenburg. It was a happy time for the couple, like most of the times for recently fallen in loves. But after two years of constant company, and a hectic projectionist week during Gothenburg Film Festival, the couple was torn to pieces and decided to take a break.

The film went on with its life as usual and Tomas moved to Malmö and started to study Media and Culture. He had some brief encounters with radio and writing. The old couple met again at the Traces of a Young Diaspora project, and they decided to make one try again but under very different circumstances. The film doesn’t know that Tomas is secretly having an affair with someone else, he is about to found a culture society called Sigrid, a forum for exchange of cultural skills.
