MomenTree
The Momentree is an interactive installation situated around a large tree in Lilla Torg. The installation allows visitors to create, store and retrieve site specific messages and playful compositions through direct and physical manipulation with an LED matrix on the tree.
The area under the tree's crown constitutes a time line of the tree's history in the square. Different compositions are evoked by the proximity of pedestrians to the tree. At a distance, a non-deliberate movement may create a retrieval of a past entry that furthers engagement. By approaching the tree, one steps toward more recent entries – and creates new memories by finally engaging directly with the LED matrix.
A prototype for MomenTree was developed as part of the physical computing theme in 2007 by Roger Anderson, Christo Goosen, James Haliburton, Kuan Ting Liu, and Yujuan Zou. The project is currently in development for full deployment later this year.
