about 'glocal times'

Welcome to Glocal Times, a web magazine published two times a year by Malmö University’s Master in Communication for Development.

Media and communication are increasingly relevant for international development cooperation. However, to date very few universities or research institutions systematically integrate development and communication from an interdisciplinary approach.

The Master in Communication for Development (ComDev), started at Malmö University’s School of Arts and Communication in the year 2000, broke new ground regarding content and form of study. Combining distance learning via the Internet with an emphasis on group interaction and peers’ collaboration, ComDev embraces the web’s potential for broadening reach and eradicating distance to enhance the professional training of media, communication and development practitioners worldwide. In 2002, the third edition of the Master course was the first step towards its internationalization: taught entirely in English, it reunited participants from Scandinavia, Latin America, Africa and Asia. Today, ComDev has become a well-recognized postgraduate on-line distance education course, and remains a pioneer in terms of online pedagogies and applied interaction design. Participants, lecturers and staff interact in the meaningful learning environment offered by ComDev’s curricula and web structure. For further details, you are welcome to join us at www.k3.mah.se/comdev and visit the courses now active.

Adding to the development of an international community of academics and practitioners initiated with the ComDev Master in 2002, it is our purpose, through the publication of Glocal Times, to build this website into an indispensable digital reference and a vivid forum for the discussion and dissemination of issues concerning communication for development and social change.
