This site functions as a mother site for all fashion and technology related courses containing previous students work, photos, related links etc. Information related to the specific courses is to be found on the satellite websites of the courses linked to in the menu to the left under course sites.

The courses:

As wearable technology becomes more common, it is changing our concept of human subjectivity, creating new concepts of identity, new systems of behaviour and extensions of the body itself. What happens when the appearance of your garment is reacting on the surrounding sound environment or could be remotely controlled from afar? What if you could tag your outfit with a digital alter ego that could be revealed by anyone scanning your clothing?

We explore how wearable technologies can speak the language of fashion, serve as agents for personal expression, as functional tools or as critical tools. The course combines the theories of wearable technologies as means for personal expression with practical concept development and physical prototyping.

Explorations of the field includes a study of clothing and style as socio-cultural communication and an investigation of how emerging technologies can assist in personal expression. The practical work will include a hands-on study of enabling technologies, electronic labs and design assignments on topics such as "fashion hacking", "contextual couture", "bodily transformations" and "back to the future". Structurally, the course is divided into lecture, workshop, electronic lab and presentation seminar.

A major part of the courses is dedicated to the students putting their knowledge into practice by conceptualizing an innovative idea and to design and construct a wearable prototype using microcontrollers, sensors and textiles.

A lot of the work is based on group work
Note that the course runs over the christmas holidays, with scheduled classes until 22nd of december, and from the 4th of january. In between those dates you will be expected to work on your final project together with your groupmates-so please don´t plan an extensive holiday during this time.
