Interaction design, Product design, Experience design & Art

Hello!

As a graduated Interaction designer and in the age of 25 I am optimistic about my future. My bachelor degree I got at K3, Malmö University in Sweden. During my three years of studies I have learned the skills that you need as an interaction designer. I have a large understanding for the discipline where my focus is on the users needs and requirements. My studies are based on subjects that are relevant when technology meets esthetics and user centered design.

I just finished my final thesis at Sony Ericsson at the department of product planning where I worked under Anna Göjeryd. The assignment was to create an added value for a mobile phone without interfering with the already made product. The work was considered as a success and led me in on the area of experience and emotional design witch is an area I find very interesting.

I see myself as a rather commercial designer or who wants combine new and exiting technologies with other design disciplines and subjects. I have a background in art and a large interest in concept development, product design and marketing. With a wide perspective of many connected areas I believe it is easier to create valid and contemporary design solutions for the consumers of today, whose demands are higher now than ever.

I am used to work with multidisciplinary projects. It is important for me to present my ideas and I have learned to communicate them and express myself in an effective way. With my knowledge, skills and creativity I hope I can provide the market with quality solutions.

Sincerely yours!

Jacob Holst.

EXPERIENCE DESIGN

"While everything, technically, is an experience of some sort, there is something important and special to many experiences that make them worth discussing. In particular, the elements that contribute to superior experiences are knowable and reproducible, which make them designable"

- Nathan Shedroff

This is a discipline that is still in its infancy. Since I got in touch with it my own experiences is only getting better, and I endeavour to create good ones myself.

Emotional Triggers
by Jacob Holst & Anders Gran

This was my final thesis at bachelor's level. Together with Anders Gran I searched for new ways of creating stronger user experiences for Sony Ericsson. Our focus has been how an experience can be amplified by adding emotive factors.

21st century conscience
by Jacob Holst

One of my latest written papers regarding the consumer attitudes of today and the new way of experiencing brands and products with help of emotional branding, design and economy.

The total value of last years consumer boycotts is evaluated to 3,2 milliard pounds, and in the UK the ethical commerce is worth 25 milliard pounds a year and rise. The message is clear for the consumers, producers and large brands, you sleep better with an untainted conscience.

INTERACTION DESIGN

Have you ever thought of how many computer chips there are on every man, woman or child on this planet? I read somewhere that the number is twelve! I find the discipline important and relevant for us to consider in the future. It is the answer that has grown on the digital materials changeable characteristics

Alcontrol
by Jacob Holst, Anders Gran & Dan Gavie

Our help for the day after, the Alcontrol concept is simple: if you're too drunk you won't be able to make those "soon to regret,” phone calls. A bonus feature is that a "secret" phonebook is accessible only under some influence...

The technology we used were simple. Since we couldn't get a cell phone with support for serial communications we choose to make the prototype run over the internet. We used a javalin-stamp to connect a hacked micro alcometer. This stamp interpreted the values from the sensor and the phone read the values via GPRS.

Yakuza
by Jacob Holst, Anders Gran & Dan Gavie

Yakuza is a game where the real world is a part. It's about putting up your personal stickers with a unique code on it and tag other users' stickers by sending sms:s with the code to us. The users can follow the score on a web site in order to build strategies for gaining more points and more power in the yakuza community.

PRODUCT DESIGN

This is a subject I have a great interest in. I think it is helpfull to have an understanding and some basic skills within the discipline to combine with others. At the same time this is one of my major hobbies

Standard Lamp
by Jacob Holst

This is a product design project done during an exchange term in Cape Town SA at the Peninsula Technical University. The Lamps material and form is inspired of the African roots and combined with a modern touch and innovation.

The lamp has 3 main parts, a glas bowl, a bendeble aluminium arm and a foot of solid Panga panga wood. The different materials was a fun challenge to mix. The result is a furniture with a touch of african rustic feeling and scandinavian design.

The lamp has a way of changing character, the arm makes it possible to give it a wide range of different looks and attitudes. This contributes with a lot of the furnitures charm and aesthetics.
