Smart Rooms took place at Simon Fraser University in Vancouver. "A User-Centered Approach to the Design of Intelligent Interactive Products and Systems" was the name of the project which was initiated by Associate Professor Jim Budd.
As one of the two people in the evaluation group, I evaluated physical prototyping tools that were to be used in the project and in the undergraduate curriculum as well. Together with Henrik Vrenning I tested Lego Mindstorms, Phidgets and Arduino.
As Arduino was the most suitable for prototyping, I arranged a workshop toghether with Henrik Vrenning and Associate Professor David Cuartielles from Malmö University. The workshop taught the Masters and the PHD students to work with Arduino as a rapid prototyping tool. As an end result of the workshop, Arduino is now being used in physical computing courses held at Simon Fraser University.
