Meca, one of the biggest car workshop companies in Sweden with approximately 700 workshops all over Scandinavia, have announced their latest concept called Meca Service Center. A Meca Service Center will work in similar ways as hair saloons – car mechanics hires a place to run their own business but they all work under the same roof. In order to elaborate on this concept Meca decided to involve a group of interaction designers to get inspiration and an evaluation of the current IT usage at already existing car workshops.
By conducting several different observations our goal with this project was to develop prototypes and concepts for Meca that could enhance the experience for visiting customers as well as the people working at the Meca Service Centers. By approaching the design context from two viewpoints; the car mechanics and the customers, we were able to establish a ground for cooperation between the car mechanics. Through our solution, a collaborative troubleshooting/help system, car mechanics could become more efficient and would be able to benefit from each other’s skills.
The end result, a written report and a cutout-animation, was presented at Meca’s head office in Malmö, Sweden.
