Gate peepin' is intervening within visited web 2.0 platforms. The extension alters and re-edits the content of the visited sites by inserting phrases from the Terms of Services into the existing content.

The tool also integrates a summary of the Terms of Services in the browser.

III. HOW DOES IT WORK:

Peep in content:
Gate peepin' forces the regulations of the Terms of Services to leave traces within the content of the site. Triggered by keywords common to both the visited page and the terms of service, it re-edits the text of a visited website by inserting phrases from the terms directly into the site, thus turning the meaning of both the terms of service documents and the website content upside down.

Peep summary:
Whenever a site is visited Gate peepin' integrates a summary of the Terms of Services governing the site into the browser window.

The summary includes an estimation of the time it would take an average reader to read the entire ToS document and it features a list of keywords and keyphrases and their occurencies along with a direct link to the ToS of the visited site.

The summary comes with a default list of keyword filters that includes: LOCATION, LICENSES, LIABILITY, OWNERSHIP, BEHAVIOUR, CONSEQUENCES, DISTRIBUTION and SECURITY. However, the filters are fully customizable and it is possible for the users to alter the existing filters or create their own if they would like to keep an eye on a specific word or phrase.

IV. CUSTOMIZE GATE PEEPIN':
By right-clicking the eye in the lower right corner of the browser window and chosing preferences a preference pane in which you are able to customize the different Gate peepin' settings, will appear.

new preferences

The preference pane allows you to change and adjust the settings for the peep filters, the peep sites as well as the peep layout.

In the preferences it is possible to decide if you'd like to have both Peep Summary and Peep in Content enabled or only one of them.

Customize the filters:
A filter contains a list of words and phrases that you are specially interested in keeping an eye on. It is possible to enable/disable the default filters, edit the filters or create entirely new filters.

FILTERS

* You enable the filters by disabling 'everything'. In this way all enabled filters will be active.

* Highlight a filter and select 'Edit filter' in order to change its status [ON/OFF], assing a new word to its list or deleting keyphrases or words from the filter.

* Select 'New filter' in order to create a new filter from scratch.

NOTE: When using filters Gate peepin first analyzes the ToS document for strings containing any elements from the filter. All strings found will together be used as the material that Gate Peepin' uses to compare with the visited site. Sometimes a word or phrase may not appear in the inserted ToS string, this is because the commonword is after the keyphrase, however the inserted string is part of the material you've been looking for.

Customize the sites:
Gate peepin' comes with a default list of territories in which it will intervene, but whenever you stumble upon a new service which you think should be included you can include it here.
