Context: My list of publications serves as the test case for another approach to visualizing semistructured data. The data set is quite similar to the annotated bibliography.
Description: References are presented in a table with content categories in the rows and publication fora in the columns. The level of prestige for each publication is indicated by visual saturation (1). Mouseover on a column or row header (2) or on a year in the timeline (3) highlights corresponding refs. Clicking displays a list of highlighted refs, and each list entry can be clicked to display an annotation (4).
Interesting: The contrast between the static table layout and the rather highly responsive mouseover behavior is interesting. There may be a starting point here for developing some thoughts on perceptual layers in interactive surfaces.
